Chastelain de Coucy (Gui II de Coucy)

(c.1160 - 1203)

Trouvère and a member of a distinguished family who became Châtelain of his ancestral fortress at Coucy in 1186.1 He went on the Crusades of 1190 and 1198 and died on another journey to the East. A thirteenth century poem gives a bizarre but largely untrue account of his life. He was one of the first generation of trouvères, and fifteen of his songs survive.
