Robert Morton

(c.1440-1476)

English composer. Worked principally, if not exclusively on the Continent. He was singer and chaplain at the Burgundian court, where he know Hayne von Ghizeghem and Busnois. Both of the threorists Hothby and Tinctoris refer to Morton, and some twelve chansons are attributed to him, although four may not be his. inasmuch as they are Franco-Flemish rather than English in style. Josquin based a Mass on his N'auray je jamais.
