Anton Gosswin

(1535/6 – 1597/8)

Franco-Flemish composer. A singer at Munich under Lassus in 1568, he was appointed court Kapellmeister at Landshut in 1569, and returned to Munich in 1570, becoming organist at the Peterskirche in 1577. In 1580 he became Kapellmeister to the Bishop of Freising, whom he accompanied to Bonn in 1584. Four of his seven Masses are on models by Lassus, and he published skilful 3-part reworkings of Lassus' 5-part German songs, as well as his own motets and madrigals.
