Cornelius Verdonck

(c.1563 - 1625)


Franco-Flemish composer. A pupil of Cornet and Waelrant, he was from 1579 in the private service of various wealthy citizens in the Low Countries. He published chansons (whose preface deplores the poor state of music in the Netherlands) and madrigals; he is represented in Musica Transalpina, and a motet he composed for an archducal visit to Antwerp is said to have been performed by six boys on the back of an elephant..
