Italian composer. Father of Girolamo Cavazzoni. Because of similarity of names and some overlap of jobs, he is often confused with his contemporary Marc' Antonio de Alvise. Spent much of his adult life, from 1517 or perhaps earlier, in or near Venice: as a singer at St. Mark's; perhaps as organist at St. Stephen's and then at Treviso Cathedral; as organist at Chioggia Cathedral. Was in Padua with Pietro Bembo when Girolamo was born. Also lived and worked (usually as an organist) in Urbino, Ferrara. and Rome, Knew Pietro Aaron and Adrian Willaert in Venice. Wrote only keyboard works, all but one ricercar published in Venice in 1523. This publication includes two ricercars (the earliest known for keyboard) and intabulations of four chansons and two motets, for which vocal models are not known.
