Hans Judenkünig

(1455/60 -- 1526)

German virtuoso lutenist, who may have invented the peculiarly complex tablature used in early German lute books. His tablature book of 1515 is the first German publication for lute, and his Underweisung of 1523 contains dances and preludes in a pseudo-polyphonic style, many based on popular tunes.
