Leonhard Kleber

(c1495 - 1556)

German organist and composer. Possibly a pupil of Hofhaimer , he studied in Heidelberg and worked as organist in Horb, Esslingen and (from 1521) Pforzheim; he was a much esteemed teacher. His manuscript tablature of 1524 contains his own preludes in a thoroughly idiomatic and varied organ style, and transcriptions of sacred and secular pieces by composers such as Josquin , Obrecht , Brumel and Senfl .
