Melchior Newsidler (Neusidler)

German lutenist, the son of Hans Newsidler . From 1552 he was in the service of the Fugger family at Augsburg; he visited Italy in 1565 and the archducal court at Innsbruck c.1580. His lute tablatures of 1560 were frequently reprinted, and the Teutsch Lautenbuch of 1574 includes fantasias, dances and skilful arrangements of motets and secular pieces by the leading composers of the day. As late as 1584 he published lute arrangements of six Josquin motets.
