Jakob Paix

(1556 - 1623)


Composer. Born in Augsburg, where his Flemish father was organist of St Anna's. Organist from 1576 in Lauingen an der Donau, from 1609 until 1617 at the court in Neuburg an der Donau. He coposed vocal music, but his most important works are for keyboard, and particularly his important organ tablature published in 1583. The majority are intabulations of vocal pieces (motets, songs, etc.), a few by himself but most by other composers, including Palestrina and Lassus . His books also include intabulations of a large number of dances.
