Jacob [Jacobus] Praetorius [Schulze] (1)

German organist and editor, father of Hieronymus Praetorius. Kirchenschreiber (copyist) with S. Jacobi of Hamburg since 1550, he became organist in 1558, and kept this station until his death about. At the same time, he undertook similar functions for the church S. Gertrud inthe same city from 1560. As an editor, he published Opus musicum excellens and novum, a collection of 204 sacred compositions by German and Flemish authors containing his only known work, a Te Deum four 4 voices.
