French composer. He held various official posts at the French court, was a friend of the poet Baïf, after whose death he organized the Académie du Palais, and rescued some of Le Jeune's works from destruction after his death. His music includes a volume of chansons to texts by Baïf, psalms, and a Requiem for Ronsard, all in the musique mesurée style. He introduced instruments into church music, and wrote music for ballets de cour in which large numbers of voices and instruments are combined. The majority of his large output of sacred and secular vocal and instrumental music is lost.
