German composer, probably of Netherlands descent. Unterkapellmeister at the Munich court from 1569, he succeeded Lassus as Kapellmeister in 1594 and is probably identical with the Jean des Fosses who had been a singer to the Duke of Savoy in 1557. His Mass Si du malheur was based on a chanson by Lassus.
