Spanish composer. Probably studied in Seville before holding posts as maestro de capilla successively at the cathedrals of Avila, Salamanca, Ciudad Rodrigo and Palencia. He was greatly esteemed by his contemporaries 'as an exemplary polyphonist, whose work was on a level with that of Victoria , Morales and Palestrina ; a volume of his sacred music was published posthumously, and more church music and sacred and secular songs survive in MS.
