Francisco Soto de Langa

(1534 - 1619)



Spanish singer, editor, and composer. Born in Langa, Soria, Spain, he was a member of the Papal Choir in Rome (1562-1611) and of the oratory of St. Filippo Neri (1566-75); became a priest in 1575 and went to S. Maria in Vallicella. In 1590 he served as interim maestro di cappella of the papal choir, and in 1611 became patron to S. Giacomo degli Spagnoli. Five important anthologies of laude spirituali (1583-98) may have been edited by him.
