Robert Ramsey

English composer and organist. BMus. (Cambridge) 1616. Organist of Trinity College (Cambridge) 1628-44. Master of the Children at Trinity College (Cambridge) 1637-44.

In the 1630s, like John Hilton (2), another Cambridge man, he composed mythological and biblical dialogues, such as Dives and Abraham,Saul and the Witch of Endor,and Orpheus and Pluto,works that bear a direct relationship to opera and oratorio, which is what they were on a small scale.
