Richard Smert

(ca. 1400 – ca.1479)

English musician. A vicar choral at Exeter cathedral from 1428 until ca.1474, and vicar of Plymtree, near Exeter, in 1435-77. He collaborated with John Trouluffe in the compilation of the collection of carols which forms the oldest part of the Ritson MS; he may be jointly responsible, again with Trouluffe, for composing one of the antiphons in the manuscript.
