Thomas Tomkins, Sr

(ca. 1545 - 1627)



English musician, noteworthy as the father of Thomas Tomkins, as well as John, Giles and Robert Tomkins. He was appointed Vicar Choral of St David's Cathedral in Pembrokeshire in 1571 and Master of the Choristers soon thereafter. Later he became a member of the clergy and setled in Gloucester, serving as a minor canon at Gloucester Cathedral.
