English musician. A singer at St Paul's cathedral, and a convenor of amateur musicmaking at his London home, where the English taste for singing Italian madrigals developed. To satisfy a growing demand he edited two volumes of Musica Transalpina(1588 and 1597) containing Italian madrigals with English singing translations.
