Piero Strozzi

(mid-16th Century - ?)

Italian composer and aristocrat. A member of the Florentine Camerata, he collaborated with Alessandro Striggio 1 and Merulo on music for the 1579 wedding celebrations; one of his songs is the earliest surviving example of the type of expression aimed at by the early monodists. In 1595 he set Rinuccini's La mascherata degh acetateand later collaborated with Caccini.
