Maria Xavier Perucona

(1652-after 1709)


Italian Ursuline nun, musician and composer. Born to a noble family in 1652, Perucona entered the convent at the age of 16 after having already studied music. She was described as "eccellente Maestra di Musica, non che stimabile cantatrice," but she is known today only for her Sacri cencerti di Motetti. (Milan, 1675).
