German organist and composer. Eldest son of Johann Ambrosius Bach, and brother of Johann Sebastian. Studied in Erfurt with the great Johann Pachelbel and subsequently assisted his aged kinsman Heinrich Bach, in Arnstadt. Was appointed organist at Ohrdruff, a position he was to hold throughout his life. He was Johan Sebastian's teacher on clavichord.
