Christian Erbach

(1570 - 1635)

German composer. From 1596 he held various posts as organist, including those of cathedral and town organist, in Augsburg, and through his pupils had much influence on German music of the time. He published canzonets and motets and wrote much organ music, including Venetian-style toccatas, ricercars (some of which could be regarded as embryonic fugues), and an interesting canzona chromatica ,based on a descending chromatic theme.
