German organist and composer. Son of Hieronymus Praetorius and brother of Jacob Praetorius (2),Johannes was like them an organist and editor. Like his brother before him, he was a pupil of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck from1609 to 1611, then became organist at S. Nicolai, Hamburg, from 1612 until his death. He left six motets published variously between 1615 and 1635.
