Johann reincken


German composer and organist. He moved to Hamburg in 1654 and studied with Heinrich Scheidemann , was appointed organist of the Berghkercke in Deventer in 1657, then returned to Hamburg as Scheidemann's assistant (1658) and successor (1663). Famous in his time as an organist; in addition to organ music his compositions include a set of suites for strings, Hortus musicus (Hamburg, 1687), from which J. S. Bach made keyboard arrangements (BWV 954, 965, 966).
