Johannes Christoph Demantius

(1567 - 1643)

German composer. Studied at Wittenberg, and was a cantor at Zittau in 1597, and at Freiberg in 1604. A versatile follower of Hassler, he wrote Lieder, works in the historia tradition (including a St John Passion) and a number of instrumental collections which contained dances in Polish style and Hungarian 'battle music' for trumpets and drums.
