Samuel Ackroyde [Akeroyde]

(fl. 1684-1706)

English composer who composed fluently but innocuously in a popular style. From about 1684 through the 1690s he was quite often employed by the Duke’s Company (whose star composer from about 1685 was Henry Purcell) to write songs for the company. Musician in Ordinary for the violin in Private Musick from 1687 possibly through 1689. A City of London Wait from 1695.
