William Corbett

(1680-1748)

English composer, violinist, concert performer. Director of New Theater (Lincoln's Inn Fields, London) from 1700. Appointed orchestra director of King's Theatre, Haymarket in 1705. Member of Royal Orchestra from 1709. Appointed Director of the Kings Band in 1716. From 1715 lived in Italy, returning to London in 1727, possibly acting as an agent for the Crown while in Italy. Extant works: Henry VI by Betterton (1699); As You Find It (1703); Love Betray's or The Agreeable Disappointment (1703); British Enchanters, or No Magick Like Love (1706); Le Bizzarie Universali (1728).
