William Gregory

(fl. 1651-87)

William Gregory

English composer and viol player. He served at court throughout Charles II's reign in both the King's Musick and the Chapel Royal. Noted for two keyboard suites in Locke's Melothesia (1673), he also composed ten suites for other instruments and songs printed in anthologies (1667-93). He is often confused with another William Gregory (ca. 1605-63), also a court musician.
