English composer. He was a chorister at the Chapel Royal in 1668. From 1670 he was organist of King's College, Cambridge, and from 1670 to 1680 he was also master of the choristers there. He was later made university organist and organist of Pembroke College. Cambridge University granted him the degrees of Mus.B. (1681) and Mus.D. (1705). Between 1714 and 1720 he assembled a 6-volume anthology of cathedral music. His compositions consist mainly of verse anthems.
