Antoine de Boësset

(1586 - 1643)

French composer. At the court of Louis XIII he served as music master for the royal children (from 1613), as the queen's music teacher (from 1615), and in a number of other administrative positions, including finally that of surintendant de la musique du roy (from 1623). Best known as a composer of a large number of airs de cour, he also composed at least nine ballets de cour and sacred music including Masses and motets. Some of the airs were published in the collection Airs choisis à 1, 2 et 3 voix (Paris, 1738).
