J(ohann?) C. Standfuss

(? - after ca. 1759)

>German composer. From about 1750 to 1756 he was with G. H. Koch's theater company as a violinist and répétiteur. His singspiel Der Teufel ist los, oder Die verwandelten Weiber (perf. Leipzig, Oct. , 1752) was based on Charles Coffey's The Devil To Pay, or The Wives Metamorphos'd (London, 1731). The work was influential and inspired his Der lustige Schuster, oder Der zweyte Theil vom Teufel ist los (perf. Lübeck, Jan. 18 , 1759), based on Coffey's The Merry Cobbler (London, 1735). None of his music survives.
