Orazio Giaccio

(? - 1660)

Italian composer. All we know about Orazio Giaccio is that he was born in Aversa towards the end of the sixteenth century, and died in Naples towards 1660 after having been a chorister at the Casa dell'Annunziata from 1614 to 1632 and then becoming a monk. In his early period, Giaccio devoted himself entirely to secular music (Canzonette in aria spagnola e italiana, published in Naples between 1613 and 1618); after his ordination in 1620, he turned entirely to sacred music, producing collections of hymns, frottole and sacred canzonas, all of them published between 1621 and 1645.
