Philip Hayes

(1738-1797)

English organist, composer, and hymn writer, born in Oxford. Hayes succeeded his father William as Professor of Music at Oxford in 1777. He had earlier been a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, known as the fattest man in England. His nichname was "Fill Chaise", a chaise being a two-seater carriage.
