Rogier Michael

(c.1554 - 1619)

Franco-Flemish composer. A chorister at the Imperial court; studied with Annibale Padovano at the archducal court in Graz and probably also with Andrea Gabrielli in Venice. In 1574, after a period at Ansbach, he went to the Saxon Electoral court at Dresden as a singer, becoming Kapellmeister there in 1587. He published 4-part hymns and 5-part introits, left a 'Christmas Story' in MS, and was the teacher of Schein.
