John Bartlet(t)

(fl.1606-10)

English composer who published The Whole Booke of Psalms (1599) and A Booke of Ayres with a triplicite of musicke, ... in 1606. His surviving lute songs remind one somewhat of Robert Jones. Two-thirds of his publication were furnished with alternative four-part arrangements, and these are often the more successful pieces; one suspects that these came first. Nonetheless, some of his pieces have the elegant simplicity of Rosseter or Campion at their best.
