Francesco Antonio Vallotti

(1697 - 1780)

Italian composer and theorist. He studied with G. A. Bissone, maestro di cappellaat St. Eusebius, Vercelli, and joined the Franciscan order in 1716; he was ordained a priest in 1720. After further study he became third organist at S. Antonio in 1722; he became maestroin 1730, and retained the position for fifty years. There he was in charge of a choir and an orchestra with Tartini as leader, Vallotti's major theoretical work is the 4-volume Delia scienza teorica e pratica.He wrote sacred vocal and instrumental compositions.
